See Ryan Run

by Eric Chase

How did you start as an entertainer?

I started begging my parents to let me act when I was 2 and a half. After a year of persistence, my parents let me start with modeling and then commercials. It didn't take long for me to get into movies and television after that.

What is a dream role you'd love to play or artist you'd like to work with in the future?

I don’t have a specific dream role but it would definitely have to be material that really inspires me and a role that really challenges me and gives me the opportunity to make a mark and leave an impression. I would love to work with someone like Meryl Streep just because she is so highly regarded and just down-right inspirational!

Did you always want to be an actor even as a child? What did you want to be when you grew up aside from an acting?

Yes, I started acting when I was 3! I always knew I wanted to be an actress but I also wanted to be educated and I have always had interest in a myriad of professions, such as medicine and homeland security, so I figure I can just play a doctor or CIA agent on television or in movies!

What do you love most about your profession?

I love being able to explore different aspects of myself when playing different characters, but when it comes down to it I just love to feel emotion and make others feel as well.

What challenges or struggles have you faced along the way and what helped you overcome them?

There are always challenges and obstacles being in the industry because of the constant rejection and the inconsistency of it all, but the people I surround myself with, especially my mom, help me refocus and keep everything in perspective.

Do you work with any charitable organizations? What is your involvement in them?

Absolutely! Most recently I have worked with an amazing organization called Heifer International that helps to end hunger and poverty, especially in third-world countries. I recently went on a trip to Cambodia with them. I also work with an anti-bullying charity called Compassion Brands that I just designed a summer collection of t-shirts and jewelry for. A portion of their sales and all of my profits will be going to anti-bullying charities and, more specifically, to a teen help hotline.

Of all the work you have done over the years, what is the one thing you are most proud of?

I am probably most proud of my work in the movie Monster House, as I was the youngest person ever to be motion captured.

What are some personal ambitions you would like to fulfill?

I would love to start my own philanthropic organization and create my own clothing line.

What do you like to do for fun in your downtime?

I like to travel, exercise, hang with my friends and family, and watch TV and movies.

Of all the roles you've played, which one has been your favorite and why?

I think playing Claudia Shepard in Sharknado 3 has to be my favorite as of now because I got to be a badass!

What is one thing about yourself that the world may not know?

I'm a math nerd! I honestly, thoroughly enjoy mathematics. I would take away the importance of charity and philanthropy. Being in this industry has really given me the ability to see and learn a lot about the world, specifically poverty and disaster, and it has shown me how necessary it is to help others and give back.

Where are you originally from?

I am originally from Manhattan Beach, California.

What is your nationality?

I'm a mutt! I am English, Russian, Hungarian, Scottish, and I don't even know what else!

Give us 5 words that you think best describe you.

Determined, passionate, strong, emotional, and loyal.

You’re a "sign" (cancer, sagitarius, libra etc), how would you describe your personality in that regard?

I am a Taurus and I definitely feel very connected to my sign. I'm a total bull! I'm extremely determined and can be quite stubborn and I am very strong in my ideas and morals.

What are the recent projects you've worked on?

I just finished up an independent film.

What was that like? How did you get that role?

It was a great experience! I got to work with some super fun people. I actually got a straight offer for the role.

What would you say is your best asset?

My ability to stay true to myself and never fall into peer or societal pressure

What do others compliment you on the most?

My eyes.

How did you land the role for See Dad Run as Emily Hobbs?

Nothing magical… I auditioned, had a callback, and then a network test.

What was the experience filming that show like?

See Dad Run was an amazing experience. The cast and crew were so phenomenal and we all became very close. We were always laughing and having fun on that set.

Are we seeing you there again in the upcoming episodes?

There are reruns on Nickelodeon at various times and I believe it's still launching in other countries.

Tell us about Sharknado 3, what was that like? Was that intense?

Sharknado was a blast! It was a crazy shooting schedule and we filmed at the Universal Orlando amusement park, so it was super fun.

What made you want to do Sharknado?

It was something totally different for me... I had never done something so action-packed with so much CGI. Plus, I got to work with guns and just be a total badass.

Did you do a lot of green screen acting?

Yes, there was definitely some green screen but it was mostly just imagining sharks everywhere that would be put in during post-production.

What kind of movies are you going for when you get older?

I'm hoping to move into more edgy, challenging material. I would love to get back into drama.

What do you like most: TV or Film?

I love TV and I did it for almost 7 years straight, so I would like to do some more film at the moment.

What are the top three things you like to shoot?

I don’t have a top three. Actually, I pretty much have enjoyed every project and every shoot that I have done.

Do you enjoy the constant attention and adoration that comes with being an actress?

Not particularly. More than anything though I just don't understand it. Nonetheless, I love being able to use it to make a difference. I love that I can help causes and encourage people to get involved in charities. I love being able to go to children's hospitals and make sick kids smile or feel better just through my presence and help them forget about their problems for a while.

What are some of your hidden talents other than acting?

I can't say they are particularly hidden, but I do enjoy singing and dancing.

Where do you want your career to be in two years?

I would love to be working on projects that truly inspire me, challenge me, and maybe even scare me.

What is the best info you can give a new talent?

Don't give up and never stop training!

As an actress, what would you say has been your biggest obstacle?

Because I ended up on kid/family television for so long, some people would typecast me or assume I was not capable of doing anything else. So, my biggest obstacle has been to prove those people wrong and show them how much more I can do.

If you had to walk away from acting today, what memory would you take from it?

I would take all of the memories! Acting is not just a job for me… It’s my passion! Therefore, most of experiences with it have been very positive and if they weren’t positive, I learned from them. All of the memories are valuable.

If you had to walk away, what would you like to be remembered most for?

I think the things I would want to be remembered most for happened or occurred in my acting class or auditions, as that is where my skills are put to the test.

If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?

Stop worrying… You are a work in progress so just enjoy the ride!

What's next for you?

I am looking forward to Sharknado 3 airing on Syfy on July 22nd and seeing where my independent film ends up as well as finding my next project!
