Five Points with Nathaniel Potvin

Interview Isaac Alvarez

Tell us about Nathaniel Potvin and how did you start?

I am a young African American artist in the film industry trying to tell stories through film and television. I started out as a dancer when I was young which then evolved into acting.

How was working with Disney?

Working with Disney was a dream come true for me because as a little kid I had always seen myself being featured on the channel, and when I finally was it was one of the most surreal moments I have ever experienced. I am also extremely thankful towards Disney for being such a great stepping stone in my career.  Because of that opportunity I can move forward onto more mature roles.

It's been awesome seeing you in Mech-X4, tell us some memorable stories that happened behind the scenes?

One of the most memorable moments that happened behind the scenes was fried chicken and waffle night at my apartment with the cast. At the time, I was taking a culinary arts class in school so when I needed to prepare food I would test it out on the cast.

Are we still seeing Ryan Walker again in the future?

I don't know… that would be super cool if there was a huge Mech-X4 movie but I don't think it will happen.

There's a lot of publicity with Five Points, tell us about it?

Five points is about 5 kids in Chicago attending the same high-school.  They all have different roles and perspectives, and are all involved with an event that happens in the school. Each character has a different way of handling the event.

Here's an interesting question is Ryan Walker and Ryan (Alexa & Katie) the same character lol?

Hahahahaha… I actually get this question a lot, but no they are both very different characters. One is a hero and more confident while the other has trouble talking to his crush and telling her how he feels.

Any more upcoming Disney shows or moving on and taking on other roles?

I think I have done all I can with Disney channel but I am certainly not opposed to booking a Marvel movie or a Disney Feature film. Currently I am moving on to other roles, but I am forever grateful for the launch pad Disney has provided me with.

How did you get started on acting?

I got into acting because I was dancer. I was dancing at this studio and I was approached by the acting teacher there who invited me to take the class and I fell in love with it.  The acting teacher became my manager and I have been working in the industry ever since.

You look great in the photos, do you ever think of pursuing modeling?

Thank you!!!! I actually haven’t considered the idea of modeling but I do love fashion and I enjoy doing features in fashion publications. I don't think I'm opposed to the idea, but I think I love acting too much.

Top 5 vacation destinations

Bora Bora, Italy, Hawaii, Australia, and Greece.

Give us 5 words that you think best describe you.

Determined, Creative, Innovative, Inspired, analytical

You’re a "sign", how would you describe your personality in that regard?

I am a Libra which usually means you are a very balanced, fun person and I would definitely describe myself that way. I balance so much in my life but I also have a great time doing it.

Any side projects you're working on now?

I am currently working on a short film with my good friend and cast mate that we will be shooting soon. We’re really excited about it and are both starring in it, directing, and producing it.

What would you say is your best asset?

I feel like a lot of people would say that my best asset is my eyes but I think it is my personality.

What do others compliment you on the most?

People tend to compliment my eyes the most, but the second most complimented trait is my manners.

Do you like acting in drama, comedy, action etc?

I really enjoy working on all genres to show my versatility.

What do you like most: TV or the big screen?

I prefer the big screen.

What is the funniest thing to happen to you on a shoot?

For MECH I had to be slimed and the amount of times that they had to throw that gross stuff on the cast and I was pretty comical.

What are the top three things you like to do?

I love seeing movies, I love eating at restaurants, and I love collecting shoes

What are some of your hidden talents?

Two of my hidden talents are that I can one handed clap which is super weird, and I can hear dog whistles.

Where do you want your career to be in two years?

I would love to see myself acting in features and directing bigger projects.

What is the best info you can give a new talent?

Don’t let anything discourage you or make you believe that your talent isn't worthy.

If you had a choice who would you like to work with (actor, actress or director)?

I would love to work with Denzel Washington because he has so much wisdom he could impart onto me as a young actor.

What would you say has been your biggest obstacle?

I think my biggest challenge has been that I am ethnically ambiguous and mixed so some people have trouble visualizing me for certain roles.

What is the biggest advice you can give to someone that wants to pursue the entertainment industry?

Never worry how you are doing during an audition-- you will only get in your head and end up doing more damage than good.
